First day out of the
neighborhood since last Saturday.
Venture over to Lincoln Center to see a new play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. It is more entertaining than I expect.
Meet Shari and Zelia for
dinner at Tiramisu, a local Italian restaurant.
I have never seen it so mobbed. I
can only imagine that other eastsiders have not felt much like going out until now.
At dinner, Shari loses a
beautiful Roberto Coin earring. They are
an anniversary gift from her husband and it is the first time she’s worn
them. Understandably, she is upset. But as we leave the restaurant, Shari puts it
in perspective, “It’s just a thing.” And
I think of all the things people in
New Jersey and Staten Island have lost.
I see a news clip of a
couple returning to their water-logged house.
Their daughter’s baby book is ruined, but a box full of old photos is
spared.
Yes, these are just
things. But still, it is sad to lose
them.
