Here’s my brief opinion of the
4 screenings I saw this week.
Monday: Rust
and Bone
- difficult movie to watch
- unpleasant characters
- magnificent performances
- liked it better when thinking about it later
Tuesday: Silver Linings Playbook
- loved it; one of my favorites of the season
- Bradley Cooper plays against type and is excellent
- Q&A after with Bradley Cooper (sporting longish hair and a backwards baseball cap, trying too hard to be casual), Director and others
- left theater wishing I had followed my dream and pursued a career in the movies
Thursday: Skyfall
- James Bond at his best
Tonight: Lincoln
- no doubt — Daniel Day Lewis will win best actor this year; he is absolutely brilliant
- so is the movie, though a bit boring…all those guys in funny facial hair orating and orating and orating
- Q&A after with Sally Field and David Strathairn; SF is tiny, adorable (an attitude she cultivates), and genuinely looks about 25 (not the 66 she is)
