I open the newspaper and the
entire first section screams at me to go shopping. Arrive at Saks before noon
and get up to 70% off. Shop at
Bergdorf’s for major savings. Brooks
Brothers is having their semi-annual 50% off sale. Stop by Bloomingdales and take home stuff
free (or so it seems). I so want to go,
but can’t, and don’t.
I open my emails. Huge savings at one of my favorite retailers,
Inhabit. I scan their gorgeous cashmeres
and cottons. I am tempted to click buy
on a white cotton cardigan marked down from $208 to $84. With effort, I don’t. I walk away from the
computer; it’s too tempting.
Instead, I make some
fat-free popcorn, adding chocolate covered pomegranates; read Something Borrowed —a slight but
enjoyable book by Emily Giffin; and watch some wet snow fall. It may not be as satisfying as clicking on
buy, but it costs me nothing, and I'll have no remorse later.
