a funeral (lyn)

I met Jenny through Shari.  Although we were never really friends, I’ve always liked her.  She is the kind of person you feel good knowing.  Jenny is beautiful, kind, and lives life to the fullest.  She has two beautiful sons, both in college, and an adoring husband.  Today is Jenny’s funeral.  She died Monday night, at age 51.

Last September Jenny was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a deadly kind of brain cancer.  She was told she had weeks to live.  But Jen didn’t accept that. Miraculously she survived another 14 months.  A long time, but not long enough.

Through the eyes of those who spoke, I got to know Jenny better today.  Her funeral was held at Riverside Memorial Chapel, a beautiful sanctuary with stained glass windows and a blue ceiling brightened by gold stars.  The large chapel was filed with mourners of all ages.  Many of her sons’ friends were present, along with so many of her own.  Jenny was a girl who was well and deeply loved.

Her husband and sons spoke, as did her cousin and two close friends. The stories they told were different in content but similar in spirit.  Her sons were her pride, and listening to them speak today, with such grace and dignity, it is clear why.

Good-bye beautiful Jennifer.  You will be missed.
