Alexander leaves tomorrow
morning to return to school. He spends
the day sleeping and watching football with a friend. He squeezes in a few loads of laundry and
somehow manages to lose two of the four dish towels I bought at William Sonoma this
morning.
I tape the Golden Globes so we can watch it later,
and head out for dinner around eight. We
go to Dresners, a restaurant around the corner from us. Their burgers are great and I’m one of their
youngest patrons. We typically order in
from there but used to go often when Alexander was young. Our waiter
sees Alexander for the first time in years.
He tells Alexander he remembers when he used to spend as much time
under the tables then at them.
We bring home dessert and
turn on the Golden Globes. The highlights, for me anyway, are:
- Ben Afflek winning best director
- Argo winning best picture (drama)
- Quentin Tarantino winning best screenplay (for D’Jango Unchanged)
- Homeland winning major acting awards and best TV drama
- Speeches by Jodi Foster and Daniel Day Lewis
But the real treat is
watching with Alexander. He makes me
laugh.
When I suggested we watch Amour as a family over Thanksgiving, I wrote:
just got Amour, a love story about people in their
80's...
might be a great one to watch with the whole family
Alexander responded:
Sorry mom. All of my friends and I at school were so dying
to see "Amour," the love story about the people in their 80's,
that we camped out at midnight the day it was released and saw that
instead of going out, so I can't see that. I don't know if you would like
it that much mom, but I think that Jack and Adam would love it.
Other than that, I'm fine with most movies.
Tonight Alexander
is half watching as he’s on his computer.
We hear, “And the nominations for Best Foreign Film are……. Amour….”
Alexander
looks up from his computer. “Whoa, whoa,
whoa….Amour isn’t even in English? I
can’t believe you forgot to mention this.
And this is what you wanted us all to watch over Thanksgiving?”
I miss him
already.
Oh, Lyn, I laughed out loud!
ReplyDelete(Blogspot's giving me a hard time. It won't accept any of my identities.) Habanera is a very, very old one.
Hhh-hilarious. I love Alexander's response and how you fit it in to your piece.
